SPORTS DIRECT SET TO SIDELINE FINANCE CHIEF

Sports Direct (SPD.L) is thought to have hired the head hunter Blackwood Group to find a replacement for its finance director Bob Mellors - barely a month after the secretive Mike Ashley floated the retail empire. Mellors' absence from investor meetings has sparked concerns among shareholders and analysts who were alarmed by revelations that he once worked for Sports Direct's auditor, which was only recently replaced by the accountancy group Grant Thornton. Ashley became one of Britain's wealthiest businessmen by building up his Sports Direct empire, which now has 465 shops and 8,000 staff.
