Walt Disney launching cable channel in Turkey

LONDON (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co.'s Disney Channel said on Tuesday it would launch in Turkey later this month as part of an ongoing push into markets outside the U.S.

The Disney Channel, which launched recently in Poland and South Africa, will begin on Turkish satellite pay-TV operator Digiturk on April 29 as part of a multi-year deal.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Disney's Turkish pay-TV business will be managed by Giorgio Stock, who heads the channel's Italian operations.

Programs on the new channel will be dubbed in Turkish.

Disney has been active in Turkey since 1996 via its movies and has already been distributing its own-branded films to Turkish broadcasters, as well as selling branded merchandise.
