Tests rule out BSE in cow in Slovenia

LJUBLJANA, March 4 (Reuters) - Tests have ruled out mad cow disease in a six-year-old cow from a farm in Slovenia after preliminary checks last week showed it could have the disease, the country's veterinary administration said on Tuesday.

"All results of confirmatory tests were negative," the administration said in a statement.

Slovenia, which in January took over the rotating six-month presidency of the EU, has so far registered eight cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in cattle, with the last one being reported in April last year. (Reporting by Marja Novak; Editing by Keith Weir)
