Witnesses said the man, Adham al-Rajabee, was armed and was fighting in a clan feud that has killed two people in the past two days. They said soldiers appeared to mistake him for a militant and shot him.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said soldiers opened fire at three armed Palestinians that came close to troops operating in the West Bank city.

Earlier on Thursday, Israeli soldiers seriously injured a Palestinian teenager during a raid in a village north of Hebron.

An army spokesman said soldiers opened fire at a group of Palestinians who had hurled Molotov cocktails towards forces during a raid in the area.
