Chakvetadze took command of the second-round match by charging into a 3-0 lead.

Dechy fought back to level but the Russian was soon back in control, breaking serve again to take the set and later wrapping up the contest when her opponent hit a backhand wide on the first match point.

The 20-year-old Chakvetadze next meets former world number Amelie Mauresmo of France or Greek Eleni Daniilidou for a place in the semi-finals.
