U.N. court delays trial of Serb war crimes suspects

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The U.N. tribunal postponed by a week the trial of two Serbian former security officials accused of killing non-Serbs in Bosnia and Croatia during the 1992-1995 war.

The trial of Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic, which had been initially scheduled for March 10, will now start on March 17, the tribunal said in a statement on Friday. The delay came at the request of prosecutors.

Stanisic was Slobodan Milosevic's secret service chief and Simatovic a commander of elite Serb forces.

Prosecutors say both trained and armed Serb special units who set out on a program of ethnic-cleansing.
