CHRONOLOGY-Major incidents at embassies since 1998

July 9 (Reuters) - Three police officers and three gunmen were killed in a gun battle at the entrance of the United States consulate in Istanbul on Wednesday.

Following is a chronology of some major incidents at embassies and consulates around the world in the last ten years.

Aug. 7, 1998 - KENYA/TANZANIA - Truck bombs explode at the U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, killing 224 people, including 12 Americans, and wounding thousands.

Oct. 1, 1999 - THAILAND - Five attackers storm Myanmar embassy in Bangkok and hold 89 people hostage for 25 hours.

Aug. 1, 2000 - INDONESIA - Two people are killed in a bomb attack outside the Philippine embassy in Jakarta.

Jan. 21, 2002 - INDIA - Militants on motorbikes fire at U.S. consulate in Kolkata killing five Indian security personnel.

March 20, 2002 - PERU - Nine people are killed and 30 wounded in a car bomb explosion near the U.S. Embassy in Lima.

June 14, 2002 - PAKISTAN - A bomb explodes outside the U.S. consulate in Karachi, killing 12.

Aug. 7, 2003 - IRAQ - At least 17 people are killed in a truck bomb attack on the Jordanian embassy in Baghdad.

Nov 20, 2003 - TURKEY - Two blasts devastate the HSBC Bank headquarters and British consulate in Istanbul, killing 32 people.

July 30, 2004 - UZBEKISTAN - Suicide bomber kills two Uzbek security guards at U.S. embassy in Tashkent.

Sept. 9, 2004 - INDONESIA - Bomb at Australian embassy in Jakarta kills at least 10 Indonesians and wounds more than 100.

Dec. 6, 2004 - SAUDI ARABIA - Militants storm the U.S. consulate compound in Jeddah, killing five non-American staff.

Dec 24, 2004 - IRAQ - An abortive truck bomb attack on the Jordanian embassy in the Mansur district of Baghdad kills nine.

Jan 19, 2005 - IRAQ - Suicide truck bomber kills two Iraqis and wounds two Australian soldiers outside Australian embassy.

Jan. 29, 2005 - IRAQ - A rocket attack on the U.S. embassy compound in Baghdad's Green Zone kills two Americans.

March 2, 2006 - PAKISTAN - A car bomb outside the U.S. consulate in Karachi kills four people, including one American.

Sept. 12, 2006 - SYRIA - Four Syrians try to blow up the American embassy in Damascus. Syrian guards kill four assailants. A Syrian guard and bystander are also killed.

June 2, 2008 - PAKISTAN - Suicide car bomber kills at least six people outside Danish embassy in Islamabad, wounds about 20.

July 7, 2008 - AFGHANISTAN - A suicide car bomb hits the Indian Embassy in Kabul, killing 41 and wounding 139.

July 9, 2008 - TURKEY - Three police officers are killed in a shooting outside the U.S. consulate in Istanbul.

Fox, Time Warner Cable ink temp deal to avoid blackout
