"The tendency for a rising gas price is set to hold on," he told reporters at an event to mark the 35th anniversary of Russian gas deliveries to Germany.

Miller had told reporters in France on Tuesday that he expects the price of crude oil to almost double to $250 per barrel, taking gas prices with it.

Miller said on Wednesday he was optimistic Gazprom would sign a contract with German utility E.ON EONG.DE on a Siberian gas field. (Reporting by Peter Dinkloh) (michael.shields@thomsonreuters.com, Reuters Messaging: michael.shields.reuters.com@reuters.net; +49 69 7565 1266))
