Bioton to issue PLN 50 mln in shares to Krauze

Wed Jul 1, 2009 2:46pm EDT

WARSAW, July 1 (Reuters) - Polish insulin maker Bioton BOTN.WA will issue 50 million zlotys ($16.3 million) in shares to its main shareholder, the Polish businessman Ryszard Krauze, for its financing, the company said in a statement late on Wednesday.

Bioton, one of the world's few human insulin producers, has been hit by concerns over its financial situation, as the company has invested heavily in an international expansion but failed to meet lofty goals tied with it.

The company, which incurred a $6 million net loss in the first quarter, already had carried out an emergency share issue in April to get access to cash, but at the same time had promised a deep restructuring aimed at improving earnings.
