"The group (Alstom) is in exclusive talks with the SNCF for a firm order of 100 trains for 1.5 billion euros," Le Figaro said, citing no sources, and adding that this deal could be announced within the next two weeks.

Alstom was vying with Bombardier Inc (BBDb.TO) on the contract, le Figaro said.

"But this is maybe only the beginning. The number of trains ordered from Alstom could increase and involve 1,000 regional trains, representing a gigantic contract of 15 billion euros," the newspaper added.

Le Figaro said the second part of the deal could be announced after the summer.

Alstom declined to comment. (Reporting by Marie Maitre; editing by Andre Grenon)
