Another Russian athlete fails drugs test

    MOSCOW
    Thu Mar 13, 2008 9:49am EDT

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian biathlete Tatyana Moiseyeva failed a drugs test at last month's world championships in Sweden, local media quoted officials as saying on Thursday.

    Sports

News agency Allsport, citing Russian biathlon officials, reported that Moiseyeva's A sample had tested positive for dexamethasone, a steroid hormone, following an individual 15 km race on February 13 in Ostersund.

Moiseyeva, 26, also took part in the women's relay, where the Russians finished fourth.

Their result will be annulled if Moiseyeva's B sample also comes out positive and she could face a two-year ban.

Moiseyeva is the second high-profile Russian biathlete to test positive at major championships in recent years.

The 2002 Olympic champion Olga Pyleva was stripped of a silver medal and banned for two years after testing positive for the stimulant carphedon at the 2006 Games in Turin.
