Robert Greifeld, chief executive of Nasdaq (NDAQ.O), has claimed that the American bourse "chose not to win" its takeover bid for the London Stock Exchange (LSE.L), saying they were determined to maintain the discipline they had and resist the temptation to pay more. The bourse's fourth quarter results showed that profits trebled to 63 million dollars, including a 29.4 million unrealised gain from options contracts used to hedge its investment in the LSE.
