VIENNA (Reuters) - Telekom Austria (TELA.VI: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) is in talks with unions to cut 1,000 of 9,000 jobs in its wireline unit this year and up to 700 more in 2009, Austrian daily newspaper Die Presse reported over the weekend.

The company aims for concluding talks with the unions over the next weeks and present the proposal -- which includes measures such as golden handshakes and early retirements -- at its supervisory board meeting on August 19, Die Presse said.

Telekom Austria declined to comment on the report.
