Greece's OPAP says not eyeing stake in Spanish Codere
ATHENS, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Greece's betting monopoly OPAP (OPAr.AT) has dismissed reports it is eyeing stakes in Spanish gaming peer Codere (CDRE.MC) and compatriot gaming systems provider Intralot (INLr.AT).
A Spanish newspaper said on Monday the Martinez Sampedro family was mulling selling its 71 percent stake in Spanish casino and gaming group Codere and that OPAP was among the parties that could be interested.
On Tuesday, a Greek newspaper reported OPAP was considering the possibility of teaming up with Intralot or even acquiring the Greek provider.
"Greek and foreign media reports on (OPAP's) intention to buy part of Codere and Intralot or the entire firms are not based on substantial information," OPAP said in a bourse filing.
Europe's biggest betting firm said it was holding exploratory talks with a number of world lotteries, sports betting operators and lottery systems providers on opportunities for foreign expansion.
OPAP has the exclusive rights to offer sports bets and lotteries in Greece until 2020. (Reporting by Angeliki Koutantou; Editing by Daniel Flynn)
