Market Chatter - Corporate finance press digest
LONDON, May 17 (Reuters) - The following corporate finance-related stories involving U.S. and European companies were reported by newspapers on Thursday:
** The boards of UniCredit (CRDI.MI) and Capitalia CPTA.MI may meet on Sunday to approve a takeover by UniCredit, Italian newspapers reported.
** Trinity Mirror (TNI.L) has received three offers for its Racing Post publication, with private equity firms Veronis Suhler Stevenson and Exponent bidding together and Festina Lente, an investment vehicle led by Peter Crowley, also bidding, the Financial Times reported.
Goldman Sachs's (GS.N) investment arm has made an offer for the Racing Post and a number of regional newspapers Trinity Mirror is selling, the FT added.
** Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is close to making a formal bid for soccer club Manchester City with an announcement expected "within days" from both sides, the FT reported.
** The chairman of Vedanta Resources (VED.L) said he may be open to a takeover of the company, according to an interview in the Daily Telegraph.
