UPDATE 1-Kazakhmys 2007 sales grow despite output cut
(Adds details)
ZHEZKAZGAN, Kazakhstan, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Kazakhmys Plc. (KAZ.L), the world's No.10 copper miner, said on Thursday its sales grew to $5.2 billion in 2007 from $5.05 billion a year earlier despite a decrease in copper cathode output.
Production of copper cathode fell to 380,000 tonnes from 407,000 tonnes, Kazakhmys Chairman Vladimir Kim told a business forum in the central Kazakh city of Zhezkazgan where most of its production facilities are based.
"Total sales were about $5.2 billion," he said, citing preliminary figures.
Kazakhmys had earlier said copper output would fall in 2007 due to the flooding at one of its mines, warning that its full-year financial results would reflect the output cut.
Kazakhmys's metallic zinc output was 45,000 tonnes in 2007, down from 59,500 tonnes a year earlier, Kim said. (Reporting by Raushan Nurshayeva; Writing by Olzhas Auyezov; Editing by Louise Ireland)
