Israeli troops kill Palestinian militant in Gaza

GAZA, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Israeli troops killed a Palestinian gunman belonging to the Islamic Jihad militant group in the Gaza Strip on Friday, militants and hospital officials said.

An Israeli army spokesman said troops had clashed with militants during routine operations near the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis.

Israeli troops frequently conduct raids into the Gaza Strip to try to prevent Palestinian militants from firing short-range rockets into southern Israel.
