Long Turk incursion would be "dire": acting Iraq PM

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's acting prime minister warned on Wednesday of "dire" consequences for the region if Turkey carried out a prolonged incursion into northern Iraq, where its troops are hunting PKK Kurdish rebels based there.

"The consequences are dire. This is a very dangerous, precarious situation," Barham Saleh told Reuters on the sidelines of an economic conference in Baghdad when asked what would happen if the offensive was not halted soon.

Saleh said a special envoy from Turkey, who is holding talks with Iraqi officials in Baghdad on the crisis, would be told the incursion had "not been conducive to Iraq-Turkey relations" and that the Iraqi government wanted the offensive to stop.
