Woman sets herself on fire in Rome square

ROME (Reuters) - A 64-year-old woman set herself on fire close to Italy's presidential palace in Rome on Thursday, in what local media said was a failed suicide attempt to draw attention to claims of medical malpractice.

Marianna Randazzo was immediately rescued by police standing guard nearby and was hospitalized in a serious condition with burns on half of her body, according to the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

Her illness was not immediately clear, but Corriere said she left behind detailed claims of botched medical care which was being reviewed by investigators.
