Britain "disappointed" by Sudan court decision

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Foreign Office said on Thursday it was "extremely disappointed" by a Sudanese court's decision to find a British teacher guilty of insulting Islam and said the Sudanese ambassador would be summoned immediately.

"The Sudanese ambassador will be called in this evening to explain this decision," a Foreign Office spokeswoman said.

"We are extremely disappointed."

Gillian Gibbons, 54, was sentenced to 15 days in prison followed by deportation by a court in Sudan after being charged with insulting religion for allowing her pupils to name a teddy bear Mohammad.
