LJUBLJANA, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Slovenia's Defence Ministry said on Tuesday it was cancelling its planned purchase of the Spanish CASA C-295 transport plane after the same type of plane crashed last week in Poland.
The CASA C-295 plane crashed in a forest in northern Poland, killing 20 air force personnel on board.
"The security of Slovenian soldiers and military personnel is at the top of our standards," the ministry said in a statement.
"Under the circumstances the ministry decided to stop the process of a purchase of a tactical transport plane for the army," it added.
Earlier in January the ministry chose Spanish EADS CASA as the preferred supplier of the plane and said talks on the purchase were expected to be concluded in February. (Reporting by Marja Novak; Editing by Myra MacDonald)
