The Israeli military confirmed its forces carried out the attack in Abasan village, east of Khan Younis.

"This operation targeted a Hamas terrorist position and follows recent Palestinian shelling of Israeli targets across the border," an army spokesman said.

An Israeli missile earlier struck Gaza City's Jabalya refugee camp, wounding six Palestinian civilians, hospital officials said.

An army spokeswoman said Israeli troops operating in the area fired at a Palestinian rocket crew but the missile flew off course because of a "technical error".
