LONDON, Sept 4 (Reuters) - British insurer Standard Life (SL.L) said it has appointed Jackie Hunt, formerly chief finance officer at rival Aviva (AV.L)'s Norwich Union unit, to the newly-created role of deputy finance director.

Hunt, who joined Aviva in 2003 after working for four years as deputy director for capital management at British general insurer Royal & Sun Alliance, takes up her new role on Jan. 6.

A Standard Life spokesperson said Hunt's appointment would enable the company's finance director, David Nish, "to devote more time to developing the strategic agenda of the group," including the development of new insurance products.

Hunt's responsbilities will include external financial reporting, performance management, and taxation. (Reporting by Myles Neligan; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
