Woolworths cuts 450 jobs in support functions

Fri Dec 5, 2008 8:31am EST

LONDON, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Deloitte, the administrator of sweet-to-DVDs chain Woolworths WLW.L, said on Friday it was cutting 450 jobs from the British retailer's support operations in London and Rochdale, north-west England.

Deloitte said there had been no redundancies in the high-street stores or in Woolworths' distribution operation and that it was still in talks with several parties to sell the business as a going concern.

Woolworths' retail and distribution businesses employ around 25,000 people.

The offices affected by the job cuts in Marylebone Road, London, and Castleton, Rochdale, employ over 1,100 staff. (Reporting by Mark Potter; Editing by Erica Billingham)
