ST. LOUIS, Missouri (Reuters) - Colombian Camilo Villegas was closing in on this first PGA Tour title by clinging to a one-shot lead over American Jim Furyk midway through the final round of BMW Championship on Sunday.

Level with Furyk at 12-under when play was halted on Saturday due to darkness, Villegas returned to the Bellerive Golf Club early on Sunday to play his final five holes and take a one-stroke lead.

The 26-year-old was back out on the course an hour later and birdied the first to extend his lead.

Villegas carded back-to-back bogeys at the fifth and sixth before recovering with a birdie at the eight to reach the turn at level par, 13-under for the tournament, and with a one-stroke edge over Furyk.

Lurking two strokes back at 11-under are a trio of challengers, Americans Dudley Hart and Anthony Kim, and South Korean K.J. Choi.
