Russia c.bank sold around $4 bln Tuesday -dealers
MOSCOW, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Russia's central bank sold around $4 billion to prop up the rouble on Tuesday, dealers estimated, on top of $5 billion of interventions the previous day.
"The central bank sold around $4 billion, may be a bit more. The interventions were relatively well spread (throughtout the day)," said a dealer at a major bank in Moscow.
Vasiliy Ushakov, deputy head of financial market operations at Investbank, also estimated interventions at $4 billion, saying that people were changing roubles into dollars.
The rouble closed at 30.40 against a euro-dollar basket -- the level which the central bank has been defending with its interventions in recent weeks RUBASKET=MCX. (Reporting by Andrei Ostroukh, writing by Toni Vorobyova; editing by Maria Kiselyova)
