JOHANNESBURG, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Petrochemicals group Sasol (SOLJ.J) shut down its Germiston chemical solvents plant in South Africa after a fire destroyed four tankers, injuring one person, the company's spokeswoman said on Thursday.

"The plant was shut down, but no customers will be affected as we will continue to supply from our operations in Durban," Jacqui O'Sullivan told Reuters.

The cause of the fire was unknown and an investigation was ongoing, she said, adding it was unclear when the plant would reopen.

"The loading bay has been affected ... we need to understand the extent of the damage to see when it could reopen."

The plant produces solvents such as butanol, methanol and ethanol.
