Gazprom:Ukraine gives verbal nod to gas observers

MOSCOW, Jan 9 (Reuters) - Ukraine has given verbal agreement for the deployment of international gas transit observers, the chief executive of Russian state-controlled gas export monopoly Gazprom (GAZP.MM), Alexei Miller, said on Friday.

"Naftogaz Ukraine has finally got onto the path of negotiations," Miller said in a statement. "The Ukrainian side, it seems to me under EU pressure, has accepted the proposal to create an international multilateral monitoring commission."

"We hope that now the work will go quickly and constructively and also that the Ukrainian side will observe the agreements reached, which for now have been reached only verbally."

"As soon as the document has been signed ... and observers are ready for practical work on the gas stations, transit of gas via Ukraine will be possible." (Reporting by Christian Lowe, editing by Robin Paxton)
