MOSCOW, Oct 9 (Reuters) - The following are some of the leading stories in Russia's newspapers on Thursday. Reuters has not verified these stories and does not vouch for their accuracy.

- Russia's agriculture ministry will spend 10 billion roubles on subsidising local pork and poultry producers to compensate for their losses over the last six months.

- Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdykov has announced radical cuts in the army over the next three years, the daily says. The number of generals and officers will be cut to 150,000 from 330,000 today, the paper said.

- The growth of foreign car sales is slowing significantly, the paper says, citing a report.

- Ruben Vardanyan, the head of Russia's Troika Dialog investment bank, is warning investors in an interview against withdrawing their money from bank accounts.

- Small and medium sized banks in some Russian regions could face serious liquidity problems, the daily says.

- Russia's largest steel plant, Magnitogorsk (MAGN.MM), has announced that it could sack up to 3,000 workers due to the fall of demand, the daily says.

- Svyazbank, one of the first domestic victims of the crisis, will be bought for the price of a television set, the daily says, commenting on the details of the deal with Russia's Development Bank which will pay no more than 5,000 roubles for a 98 percent stake in the bank.
