Co-op, Boots to bid for Rowlands stores - report
LONDON, Jan 13 (Reuters) - The Co-Operative Group and Alliance Boots were considering buying stores from Adolf Merckle's former pharmacy chain Rowlands, The Independent said on Tuesday citing market sources.
Rowlands was put up for sale following the German tycoon's suicide last week [ID:nWEA0640].
The paper cited unnamed sources as saying the companies were considering acquiring parcels of Rowlands' 500 stores, but were unlikely to bid for the whole chain.
Neither Alliance Boots nor the Co-Operative Group were immediately available for comment. (Reporting by Ben Deighton; Editing by Leslie Gevirtz)
