Euro extends losses, hits 2009 low vs sterling

LONDON, June 15 (Reuters) - The euro hit its weakest level of the year against sterling on Monday, as the European currency suffered from broad weakness while the pound recovered from the day's low against the dollar.

The euro EURGBP=R fell half a percent to 84.71 pence according to Reuters data, its lowest since early December. Against the dollar EUR=, it traded near the day's low of $1.3864.

The single currency's slide accelerated after the pound GBP=D4 trimmed some losses against the dollar to trade at $1.6374, pulling back from the day's low $1.6305.
