LONDON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - While store groups across Europe are bracing themselves for tough trading conditions, shopping over the television is forecast to boom over the next few years, according to a report published on Thursday.

Media analysts Screen Digest and Goldmedia forecast that revenues from television shopping would jump by 54 percent to 6.4 billion euros ($8.1 billion) by 2012, fuelled by growth in digital and Internet TV.

There are currently 65 TV shopping channels broadcasting 24 hours a day in western Europe, using formats including live broadcasts and auctions.

With 40 channels and a market volume of more than 1.5 billion euros in 2007, the UK has the biggest and most competitive TV shopping market with QVC, Ideal Shopping Direct (IDLS.L) and Sit-up TV being the biggest players.

The average TV shopping sales per inhabitant in 2007 were about 12 euros, with the UK leading on 25 euros per capita. (Reporting by Mark Potter; Editing by Erica Billingham)
