Portugal Mota, Soares win Mozambique bridge deal
LISBON, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Portugal's No. 1 building company Mota Engil (MOTA.LS) and its smaller local rival Soares da Costa (SCOAE.LS) will build and operate a bridge in Mozambique over the Zambezi, requiring some 106 million euros in investment.
The companies said in a statement on Thursday the operating concession for the bridge in Tete will last 30 years.
The deal, signed with the government of Portugal's former colony, also envisages the rehabilitation and maintenance of various transport links in the region, including the Samora Machel bridge, built in Tete by the Portuguese just before Mozambique's independence.
Each company has a 40 percent stake in the consortium which also includes Mozambican company Infra Engineering Ltd, with a 20 percent stake.
Stocks in Mota-Engil were 1.6 percent lower at 4.155 euros and Soares da Costa was unchanged at 1.28 euros, while Lisbon's PSI20 .PSI20 stock index was over 1 percent in the red in early afternoon trading. (Reporting by Andrei Khalip; Editing by David Holmes)
