HELSINKI, Sept 24 (Reuters) - The world's top cellphone maker Nokia (NOK1V.HE) had a market share of 53 percent in Africa in the second quarter, and 61 percent in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding China, a company official said.

China

In both regions wireless penetration is still below 40 percent, corporate strategy head Heikki Norta told journalists, adding that this opens further growth opportunities for the Finnish handset maker.

Norta said the company's market share was 42 percent in Europe and 39 percent in China.

On a global basis Nokia has forecast its market share to drop below 40 percent in the third quarter. (Reporting by Tarmo Virki; editing by John Stonestreet)
