Solar group REC hires former StatoilHydro oil exec
OSLO, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Norwegian solar industry group Renewable Energy Corp (REC) (REC.OL) has appointed Tore Torvund, a former StatoilHydro (STL.OL) oil executive, to head its silicon operations, the company said on Monday.
REC is a major producer of solar-grade silicon which is used to make components for solar power systems.
"Torvund will be a member of the REC group management team reporting to REC Group President and CEO Erik Thorsen," REC said in a statement.
Torvund was head of StatoilHydro's Norwegian shelf oil operations until he resigned in October 2008 amid a probe into Libyan consultancy deals made by Norsk Hydro (NHY.OL), whose oil business Statoil acquired in 2007.
Torvund was head of Norsk Hydro's oil and gas division from 2000 until the Statoil acquisition.
Torvund will succeed Goeran Bye as head of REC Silicon, the company said. (Reporting by John Acher; Editing by David Holmes)
