LONDON, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE is seen opening 6-9
points higher on Tuesday, as investors await third-quarter earnings from UK
companies to provide further direction for equities, while weakness on Wall
Street overnight is seen capping gains.
The blue chip index is seen opening up to 0.2 percent higher by financial
bookmakers on Tuesday after closing almost 1 percent lower in the previous
session, pressured as mining stocks were dented by falling commodity prices as
the U.S. dollar strengthened.
With the corporate earnings season already under way in the U.S., analysts
expect investors to focus on upcoming third-quarter results from UK companies
like British and American Tobacco (BATS.L) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK.L) for fresh
clues to the recovery in corporate health.
On the economic front, the British CBI distributive trade report for October
is due at 1100 GMT, while U.S. economic data set for release on Tuesday include
the August figures for the S&P/Case-Shiller index of house prices at 1300 GMT
and U.S. consumer confidence numbers for the same month at 1400 GMT.
The Bank of England's quantitative easing policy will not cause a future

Meanwhile, a Friday malfunction in a crude unit at BP's 455,790 barrel per
day refinery in Texas City, Texas, had no impact on production, sources familiar

LIFE INSURERS
Life insurers and pension funds have warned of an investment calamity if
European regulators force Britain's state-backed banks to cancel interest
payments on their bonds, the Daily Telegraph reported.
LAND SECURITIES (LAND.L)
The property developer said on Monday it would no longer offer rental deals
for its retail tenants, the Times reported.
ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND (RBS.L)
Reform is needed over bank pay but the sector should not be "demonised,"
Royal Bank of Scotland chief executive Stephen Hester was quoted as saying by

William Hill and Betfair are among the bidders for the first online gambling
