HARARE, July 27 (Reuters) - Zimbabwean Finance Minister Tendai Biti has received a death threat, his MDC party said on Monday.

"The MDC secretary-general, Hon Tendai Biti, has received a letter with a live bullet inside, it in what the party is treating as a death threat," it said in a statement.

The MDC formed a unity government with President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF in February.

Mugabe on Friday called for an end to political violence and committed his party to campaigning peacefully as the country marked the start of a national reconciliation process.

The southern African country was plunged into violence last year as Mugabe fought to reclaim power in a run-off vote after being defeated by MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, now prime minister in the new administration.

The formation of the new government has eased political tensions although the MDC says some of its members continue to be targeted by Mugabe’s ZANU-PF members in the countryside.
