Israeli PM says Gaza operation may last 'some time'

Sat Dec 27, 2008 1:50pm EST

TEL AVIV, Dec 27 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Saturday Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip could "take time", and braced residents of the country's south for sustained rocket fire from the Hamas-ruled enclave.

"It may take time, and each and every one of us must be patient so we can complete the mission," Olmert told reporters.

"Israeli citizens,... it is possible that in the short term, the number of rockets will rise and they will reach farther than what they have been accustomed," Olmert said.
