Nigeria's Benue Cement says Q3 profit up 171 pct

LAGOS, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Nigeria's Benue Cement Company BCEM.LG posted a 171 percent rise in pretax profit to 12.96 billion naira ($87 million) in the third quarter to Sept. 30, the firm said on Wednesday.

Gross earnings at the firm, controlled by local private conglomerate Dangote Group, soared to 27.22 billion naira from 9.81 billion naira in the same period of 2008, the company said in a filing to the Nigerian Stock Exchange. ($1=149.41 naira) (Reporting by Tume Ahemba; Editing by Randy Fabi)
