LONDON, Dec 31 (Reuters) - The following corporate finance-related stories involving U.S. and European companies were reported by media on Wednesday:

* LyondellBasell Industries AF SCA [ACCEIN.UL], the privately held chemical firm, has told lenders it is considering filing for bankruptcy protection, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. [ID:nN30361345]

* Lloyds TBS (LLOY.L) has signalled its determination to see off demands from the trustees of the HBOS HBOS.L pension scheme for greater security for retirement benefits once it acquisition of the ailing mortgage lender is completed, the Financial Times said.

* The Austrian government is preparing to take management control of Vienna-based Bank Medici after the bank revealed clients had lost money in funds it ran which invested with Bernard Madoff, the FT said, citing officials familiar with the situation.

* Madrid property company Martinsa-Fadesa's (MFAD.MC) debt repayment proposal has the backing of holders of nearly 60 percent of its credit, Spanish daily newspaper ABC reported, citing financial sources. [ID:nLV422007]
