TURIN, Italy, June 30 (Reuters) - Fiat (FIA.MI) managed to keep its share of the home market above 30 percent in June despite a decline in car sales, the Italian automaker's chief executive said on Monday.

"The Italian market in June is in line with May's results (and) we have a quota that is higher than 30 percent," Sergio Marchionne told reporters on the margins of an assembly of industrialists in this northwestern city.

"We confirm all of the targets including an 8 percent market share in Europe," he said. Italy's new car sales are likely to have fallen around 17 percent in June, Italian business daily Il Sole 24 Ore newspaper said on Sunday.

Official sales figures for the month, which Fiat Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne has previously called "a disaster," will be published by the transport ministry on Tuesday.

In May, car sales for the country fell 17.6 percent, while those for Fiat fell 12.6 percent, giving it a market share of 32.67 percent. (Reporting by Gianni Montani; writing by Gilles Castonguay)
