Underwood, Chicks, Chesney top CMT nominations
NEW YORK (Billboard) - Carrie Underwood, the Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts and Sugarland scored a leading three nominations each for the 2007 CMT Music Awards, to be held April 16 at Nashville's Curb Event Center.
Voting began Thursday (February 1) on CMT.com; eight nominees in each category will be whittled to four by February 28.
This year introduces the new Wide Open country video of the year category, nominees for which include Jimmy Buffett's "Bama Breeze," Sheryl Crow and Sting's "Always on Your Side" and Willie Nelson's "You Don't Know Me." The honor is intended for "artists who stretch the boundaries of mainstream country music," according to CMT.
Comedian Jeff Foxworthy will host the show for the third straight year.
