"Cloverfield" scares up big DVD business

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Cloverfield" enjoyed a monster debut on DVD, topping the U.S. DVD sales and rental charts its first week in stores, according to data issued Wednesday.
The sci-fi actioner, which earned more than $80 million at the North American box office, bumped the previous week's top seller, "Juno," to No. 2 on Nielsen VideoScan's sales chart.
"Charlie Wilson's War," debuted at No. 3, followed at No. 4 by "Alvin and the Chipmunks," still a strong seller in its fourth week in release. Also new was the horror remake "One Missed Call" at No. 7.
In rental venues, "Cloverfield" generated an estimated $7.5 million, according to Home Media Magazine market research. The previous week's champ, "Juno," fell to No. 2, earning an additional $6.9 million. "Charlie Wilson's War" debuted at No. 3 with $6.7 million, and "One Missed Call" at No. 7 with $4.7 million.
"Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem" was again the top Blu-ray Disc seller for the week, followed by "Juno" and "I Am Legend."
