Thu Aug 2, 2007 9:21pm EDT

TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - Canada is developing a homegrown version of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" in partnership with the producer of the hit Fox series.

Television

Toronto-based CanWest MediaWorks plans to air five episodes of "Are You Smarter Than a Canadian 5th Grader?" in the fall. The taping will be preceded by a five-city casting tour. There was no word on who will host the show.

Global Television, one of two domestic networks operated by CanWest MediaWorks, already draws big numbers airing Fox's "5th Grader," which comes from "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett.

Staging Canadian versions of popular U.S. reality and variety shows already airing here has proved popular with ratings-hungry domestic broadcasters. CTV airs "Canadian Idol," and rival broadcaster Chum offers "Canada's Next Top Model."
