RPT-FDA clears way for generic versions of Lamictal

WASHINGTON, March 2 (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday said GlaxoSmithKline Plc's (GSK.L) (GSK.N) seizure drug Lamictal was not withdrawn from sale for safety or effectiveness reasons.

The FDA said the ruling paves the way for the agency to approve generic versions of the drug, also known as lamotrigine.
