Acorda eager to develop other MS-related drugs
NEW YORK, June 2 (Reuters) - The chief executive of Acorda Therapeutics Inc (ACOR.O) said approval of its most important drug could happen as soon as next year and transform the tiny biotech company, bringing in enough revenue to develop other highly promising medicines related to multiple sclerosis.
Acorda said on Monday it plans to seek U.S. approval early next year for its lead medicine, called fampridine, after a second late-stage trial showed it could significantly increase walking ability in patients with multiple sclerosis.
Analysts estimate the drug, which helps mobility, but does not slow progression of the neurological disease, could garner peak annual global sales of up to $800 million. (Reporting by Ransdell Pierson; Editing by Andre Grenon)
