UPDATE 2-Three workers burned at Conoco Belle Chasse refinery
(Adds company comment)
HOUSTON, July 3 (Reuters) - Three workers were burned by steam at ConocoPhillips' (COP.N) refinery in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, on Thursday afternoon, the company and a sheriff's department official said.
Conoco said operations at the 247,000 barrel per day refinery, located 26 miles (41.8 kilometers) south of New Orleans, were normal on Thursday afternoon, following the accident.
Two of the workers were taken to suburban New Orleans hospitals and the third man was flown to a hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said Maj. John Marie of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office.
The three men, employees of Plant Performance Services LLC, "were doing routine maintenance on a steam line when they came into contact with steam," said Conoco spokesman Bill Tanner.
After seeing to the workers' medical treatment, the company launched an immediate investigation to determine the cause of the accident, Tanner said.
Plant Performance Services, also known as P2S, is a subsidiary of Fluor Corp (FLR.N), according to Fluor spokesman Keith Stephens.
"Our concern right now is for the workers and their families," Stephens said.
Both Conoco and Fluor said they would cooperate with any investigations of the accident.
Plant Performance Services received a meritorious safety performance award in May from the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association for its safety record at the Conoco refinery in Belle Chasse, according the company's website. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; editing by Carol Bishopric)
