U.S. consumer confidence rises in latest week--ABC

Tue Nov 3, 2009 5:05pm EST
NEW YORK, Nov 1 (Reuters) - ABC News said on Tuesday its
weekly measure of U.S. consumer confidence rose from last
week's three-month low, as positive views on the buying climate
lifted from a year-low.
The ABC Consumer Comfort Index rose to -49 in the week
ended Nov. 1 from a -51 the prior week.
While the index broke from its two-week stretch at -50 or
lower, it still lies in deeply negative territory, just below
its 2009 average of -48.
The CCI has come it at -40 or lower for 80 weeks and has
not been on positive ground since March 2007.
The index first hit a record low of -54 in the week to Dec.
1, 2008, and again in the week to Jan. 25, 2009.
