White Sox slugger Quentin to undergo wrist surgery
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Chicago White Sox All-Star slugger Carlos Quentin has fractured his wrist and will undergo surgery next week that could sideline him for the rest of the season, the team said on Friday.
Quentin, who leads the American League with 36 home runs, suffered the injury during Monday's game in Cleveland and returned to Chicago on Wednesday to be treated.
He will have a screw inserted into his right wrist on Monday and then be re-evaluated in two or three weeks, the club said on its website (chicago.whitesox.mlb.com), adding that the left fielder's season might be over.
The White Sox lead the A.L. Central Division with a 78-61 record but lead the second-place Minnesota Twins by just 1.5 games.
Quentin is batting .288 and his 100 runs batted in ranks fourth in the American League.
