Partner in U.S. publisher Farrar, Straus & Giroux dies
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Robert Giroux, who rose to become a partner in U.S. publishing house Farrar, Straus & Giroux, has died at the age of 94, the New York Times reported on Friday.
Giroux worked with some of the major authors of the 20th century, including T.S. Eliot, George Orwell, Edmund Wilson, Robert Lowell, Bernard Malamud, Flannery O'Connor, Randall Jarrell, Jack Kerouac and Susan Sontag, the Times reported.
Farrar, Straus was founded in 1946 by Roger Straus and John Farrar and Giroux was made a partner in 1964. Lowell's book of poems, "For the Union Dead" was the first book to bear his imprint.
Farrar, Straus & Giroux was not immediately available to comment.
